Why do some people call you Birdie?

When I first decided to take my writing seriously, I signed up for online classes to improve my skills. This was back in the early days of the internet—before social media took over and when most of us were still figuring out how to use email. Online communities were just beginning to form, and privacy was a big deal—so no one really used their real names!

As I tried to pick a screen name, I ran into a bit of a roadblock. Every creative option I came up with was already taken. Frustrated, I glanced around my room, and my eyes fell on the six cockatiels I had at the time (I still have one, by the way!). "Well, I’m definitely a bird person..." I thought, and just like that, I typed in the name Birdie. And here’s the fun part—it stuck.

That was when I first joined Writer’s Village University, and since then, Birdie has been my online identity. It's a name I've carried with me through all my writing adventures. Even now, many years later, I’m still Birdie to many in the writing community. Funny how something as simple as a bird can become such a significant part of your story.

So, if you’ve ever wondered why some people call me Birdie, now you know!
