November I wrapped up a variety of 5-star reads, each offering something unique—from thought-provoking poetry to thrilling psychological horror. This is a good place to mention that I don't write a review for a book unless I can award it at least three stars. I know the hard work that goes into the writing process and that not every book is for every reader. I try to choose books that interest me, and in November I struck it rich.
November’s 5-Star Reads
Il Lupo by Gregory Alexander Sharp
A standout read for November was Il Lupo, a psychological thriller with supernatural twists. Gregory Alexander Sharp delivers a slow-burning suspense that is both intelligent and haunting. The novel explores fate, choices, and the consequences of our actions in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat. The eerie atmosphere and compelling characters make Il Lupo a must-read for fans of intelligent thrillers with a supernatural edge. I’m eager to continue the journey with the sequel, Kill and Cure: Il Lupo 2.0.
Poetic Wanderings by Dave and Lillian Brummet
Another November highlight was Poetic Wanderings, a collection of introspective poetry by Dave and Lillian Brummet. The collection offers a journey through memory, nature, and time, with nostalgic themes that invite personal reflection. The poems remind of the fleeting beauty in life and encourage readers to appreciate the present while embracing the past. If you enjoy poetry that makes you pause to think, this book is for you.
False Impressions by Ace Bryann
For something more political, False Impressions by Ace Bryann offers an immersive mix of political intrigue, family drama, and romance. Set in the microstate of Calina, it follows young monarch Derek Landino as he navigates rebuilding his country while dealing with complex personal and political conflicts. The book’s rich character development and interwoven plots made for a gripping read, perfect for those who enjoy a blend of political thrillers and heartfelt drama. I haven't posted this review on my BookHookup blog yet, but it will be posted this week. Content Warning: Contains one scene with explicit sexual content.
Looking Ahead: December’s Literary Journey
As we head into December, I’m excited to explore even more diverse genres, from emotionally charged dramas to epic fantasy worlds. Here are a few books I'm currently reading:
And Then You Were Gone by Ivy Logan
I'm only seven chapters in but And Then You Were Gone promises to be a haunting and emotionally poignant read. This book touches on themes of motherhood, the power of storytelling, and the consequences of blurring the lines between fiction and reality. So far, it’s a psychological and emotional journey that I’m eager to experience.
Desulti: An Epic Fantasy by Ross Hightower & Deb Heim
I'm halfway into this one. Desulti is an immersive, epic fantasy, by Ross Hightower and Deb Heim. It offers a richly detailed world shaped by history, politics, and inequality. The story centers on Tove, a strong female protagonist scarred by the tyranny of the Vollen Empire, who crosses paths with Brie, a member of the secretive Desulti assassins. When Brie offers Tove the chance to join the Desulti, Tove sees an opportunity for empowerment—but things aren’t as they seem. So far it's a gritty, action-packed fantasy.
Anna's Fresh Start by Lori Soard
I only started this one yesterday and I'm captivated. Anna’s Fresh Start by Lori Soard is a heartfelt story of personal growth, new beginnings, and second chances. Set in 1870 in the South following the war, Anna is at a crossroads in her life, and she must decide whether to leave behind her old life in pursuit of a new, more fulfilling future.
As December unfolds, I’m eager to immerse myself in these captivating narratives and I look forward to sharing more literary reflections as we wrap up the year!
