This week, my creativity meandered through realms both fantastical and ruggedly real. I climbed alongside magic, explored the coming-of-age journeys of more than one fierce female heroine, and wandered through mountain tops where dragons roost and winds of change carry secrets.
Yet the worlds of my Dragon's Oath series weren't the only landscapes I visited. I also spent time in the Wyoming territory, where the sod house and sweeping high plains set the scene for Laramie Hearts, Book 2—currently with the working title Rekindled Hearts. There, I uncovered the haunting backstory of a man who lay among the dead on the battlefield for three days, only to return home and discover that life had moved on without him—his wife had left for another. I learned about rounding up cattle, the grit it takes to live in such open spaces, and the stark, breathtaking beauty of the high plains.
It’s a curious thing, this life of a writer. One moment my creativity meanders alongside a young Drake Ascendant atop a craggy peak, the next it tracks a herd across golden fields under a vast sky. Each story, whether spun from imagination or plucked from history, leaves a mark on me—and, I hope, a bit of wonder for anyone who reads along.
The week ends, as always, with a notebook full of worlds, characters, and questions. And I can’t wait to see where the next few days will take me.
